Presentation Makeover
I redisgned a PowerPoint presentation (Project 1) and a job aid (Project 2) used by my employer, applying message design principles to simplify and clarify the content and make it more appealing to diverse learners. The PowerPoint was improved by discarding all nonessential information and converting what remained into an image based, audience focused presentation. The job aid was transformed from a eight text heavy pages into four concise pages that use images, storytelling, and other techniques to present a more effective instructional tool.
ILT Competencies Demonstrated: 4,5
Competency 4: I presented the content in the revised job aid using visuals including images and a graphic hierarchy created in Visio. The first page presents the purpose of the job aid as a story in the context of "a day in the life of a call center agent." The finished job aid can be delivered via print or electronically including mobile devices.
Competency 5: Both projects convert text based items into learning tools that feature text and images and use anecdotal stories to make the presentation more appealing to learners. Both projects are also sequenced according to effective message design principles such as the Situation, Conflict, Resolution, Example model. The job aid features a hierarchy and it compares and contrasts key elements to increase its effectiveness.
